Hi,
was wondering how to get rid of, or record over, previous tracks recorded on my reel to reel?
got a fairly detailed manual but not a mention of it there.

im guessin its a pretty dumb ### question but there it is.

i can overdub and all but thats it.
i would really like to erase everything on it. its only 8 min song and thats all that on it so far, i guess i could just start the new song after it but i gotta know for the future how or what to do here.

Cheers.

It should erase easily if the heads in good shape - Otherwise, a bulk eraser is in order - If you can still find them...

did a some looking and from what i can see just arming all 8 tracks with the dBX off and turning down the inputs and recording over is the word.

just wanted to dble check with you M.M. if thats sounds like a goer or not.

also "dBX track 8 defeat" what does this mean? i have an on/off switch.
its currently on.

and "balanced to balanced" using unbalanced cables, is that ok?

Yep - Record nothing.

DBX Track 8 Defeat turns the DBX NR off on track 8. I'd probably turn the master DBX switch off - But that's me. I never liked it much.

Unbalanced cables shouldn't be a problem - Is there a switch that you're referring to?

went ahea and erased. did it no worries, there is however more hiss now than when it was new, is this normal?

its not a great deal, but noticable.

i'll tell you the settings see if there's anything askew.

i had the dbx light on actually instead of off, i couldnt really hear any difference with it on or off.

all tracks armed with the vols all down, but left the switches and recording specifics the same.

If there's no difference when the DBX is engaged or not, I'm thinking there's an issue with that circuit. And you're reducing the *input* levels as opposed to the *repro* levels, yes?

ok let me clarify
arm all tracks with vols down to erase,
DBX defeat switch off, and DBX switch on front panel off.

(the two switches you see has dbx written in the middle there, that must be the switch?, cant find any others.)
one switch is 1-4 and other 5-8.

ok, did it again without the dbx on etc. this time.
definately a difference, before it was more hissy and could hear almost a tad of crikkle and crakkle at times but now its all gone.

hiss is still more noticable than when it was new, but its not digital is it, so its to be expected i guess.

thanks for your help M.M.
any other tips would be cool if you can think of any. im a newby using tape.

cheers.

Just the record function. You are not assigning any tracks to any outputs so that is moot.

But ya, a bulk tape eraser can still be had. Not cheap these days though at all.
