If I record a track in 24 bit 96khz in Cubase sx or any other program and it runs through an analog board straight to Dat...Is it still Digital, or have I recorde analog??? I would be recording to the Tasccam Da 30 MKII. And while we are on Dat recorders...I know you can burn mixes to cd and they can be mastered from cd but is Dat still the prefferred medium for mastering from...oh wise and honorable HRC...heheheheh...

Mar 19, 2003 08:23 am If your recording is done to a DAT then your recording is digital.
But, here is the rub, it started digital, you passed through a D/A convertor going to the mixer, then you go through an A/D back into the DAT. SO you start digital, switch to analog, then switch back to digital.
In regards to the "preferred medium", I dunno, most replication houses I have worked with can use either...don't know if either is "preferred".

Mar 19, 2003 06:31 pm Same as dB said, I dont know that there is a preferance for most places. I do know weveral samller outfits, have gone away from the DAT machines to save space, but most of the reputable places still use both. I know in my case, I dont use a DAT machine anymore, its either coming here or going on CD or over the internet now. With the ability to get transfer rates as high as 1.5 gig now I send and recieve alot of tracks and files over the net. It sure saves on postage when your dealing with someone on the other side of the planet.
