I'm more of a PM5D guy. But the LS9 is a good desk. If your going to go that route, I would suggest taking a look at the M7CL. You get better control with the M7, plus a bigger screen

Your list is impressive. You cover all of the bases. Something that you don't see all of the time.

One thing that I would suggest doing. Is to either put a ground lift for all of the channels of your split on your snake. When you run a monitor console, it will keep it pin quite.

If there is no room for a ground lift switch, then there is a trick that you can do. Take a 1k capacitor, and a 1k resistor. Put them in series between pin 2, and pin 1, of each of the XLR's of your snake. This will act as a ground lift for the split.

Other then that, the only thing that I see that you may want, is an active DI for the bass. And maybe a condenser or two for overheads for the drums on outdoor shows.

Well, always nice to see another live sound guy out there. Welcome to the HRC. Hope to hear some more form you soon.

Seconding the M7. I still get called in for a fair bit of FOH at a local performing arts facility that now has a M7 for "the bigger shows" and a LS9 in the booth.

And the first thing I do when I get into the booth is start punching at the LS9's (NON-touch screen) display.

It's a decent board - But not "fast enough" for typical live sound IMO. The M7 is slow enough - even if you're well-rehearsed on it. But the flexibility is worth it once you can get through all those menus. No racks of compressors and EQ's, no outboard effects units - It's a dream. With the M7, you can fairly easily run a relatively large input list and 6 or 8 monitor mixes from FOH without issue.

Yep. I agree too. Just a matter of finding the extra $$$ for the M7. Regardless, with either the ls9 or m7, I love the idea of not carting around racks of gear.

Good info on the splitter snake...thanks again.

I also just watched a few YouTube videos on the BE-MIX stuff that is compatible with the Yamaha digital desks. Basically, allows you to run the board from a Palm device using bluetooth. The FOH guy was on stage doing the monitor mixes with his Palm Pilot. Pretty soon, snakes are going to be a thing of the past, methinks.

Well, the traditional snake as we know it, will be around for a whole longer.

The price of the digital snakes is still very high. I don't see the price dropping anytime soon.

The idea of a complete wireless system can not be supported at this time, due to bandwidth issues.

As far as running the desk with Bluetooth. I do this with all of the Yamaha desks. Not Bluetooth, but with a Tablet computer.

Now I am controlling much more then just the desk. I'm running Smaartlive and the Dolby Lake software. Along with the Ashly suite.

What I do then, is to have my main computer hooked up to all of the physical hardware. Then using a wireless router, I then walk around with my Tablet. I have much larger range with this, then the any Bluetooth device. We have found that on a outdoor show, I can go around 500' before I have dropout issues. Plus the Tablet has a larger screen to work with.

Don't let the Bluetooth be your deciding factor. BE-MIX is something I never heard of. They might be good. But since it does not appear on band riders, it may be to new. Which means that it may be buggy. The Yamaha Studio Manager program has been around for a while. Just about all of the bugs have been worked out of it.

Yeah, eh.... I just looked over at the Be Mix web site.

I have to say.... Run far, and run fast away from this.

The idea that Yamaha was taken aback by their desk moving on it's own. Like they never saw this before, is bull.

Yamaha developed the Studio Manager program just for this reason. And when the PM1D was first introduced to the world, Yamaha demonstrated the desk by running it on a Tablet.

Be Mix, is very similar to a system that a company around here in Philly developed. It was called the Handby system. I believe that it's still around. Although most manufactures have a disclaimer on their warranty, stating use of a Handby will void the warranty.

Just something to keep in mind.

Yep, Be-Mix is something to stay far away from indeed. In fact one of the acts on their website that did indeed invest in a system from them spent less the 6 weeks with it and had nothing but aggravation with it. The warranty and customer satisfaction claim is bunk as well. They are now in the process of using legal means to get their money back.

So I must agree with Rob, stay as far away from that lot as you can.

Good to know, guys. I am no where near needing ANY type of wireless setup at this point. The tablet does look extremely versatile if I ever get to that point. Like I said, the VERY weak link in my system right now is the board. I will definitely go digital when I upgrade. It's just a matter of whether I'll drop the cash for the LS9 or the M7. Either way, looks like the tablet is compatible with both, correct?

Yes. It's just the windows format that you want. Sorry to say, at this moment, Mac does not make a Tablet.

Your just running remote desktop to run the Studio Manager on your main PC.
