So I was looking for a tune to cover (recording practice) and I came across an old Greg Kihn album. I said, hot damn. So I did a cover of "Cant Stop Hurting Myself". Maybe you old guys will remember this one. The album "Rock-Kihn-Roll", had "The Breakup Song" on it also (his most popular song). But this was my favorite off the album. I used alot of reverb and vocal doubling on this one to get that 1979 feel. As usual Im playing everything and tryin to sing. Enjoy.

Nov 01, 2008 09:27 pm The sound is good! I must admit the title of the thread worried me a little. I thought one of us would be making a call to crisis intervention ;-)

Nov 01, 2008 09:33 pm Bush, I'll be giving it a listen tomorrow.
Herb, I was thinking the same thing.
Nov 01, 2008 10:23 pm Sorry guys. Didnt mean to alarm anyone. :)
Nov 01, 2008 10:31 pm Good thing there's not a song titled "Oh Christ, My Face is Turning into Herdez Medium Salsa."

Nov 01, 2008 10:35 pm I figured it would be a song since it was posted in the Music & Composition forum. :-)
Good song, great guitars and I like the bass. The vox would benefit from a bigger presence in the mix and maybe the drums in a few parts too.
But, as always, enjoyed listening!

Nov 01, 2008 11:06 pm Nice one, the guitars really have a nice tone to them, I agree the vox could be just a bit more present, but I could still hear them fine. Enjoyed the listen, and the trip back in time. :)

Nov 01, 2008 11:07 pm Thats a great title Herb !!!! Thanks Nightcap. I think I need to add a few more rhythm tracks to the mix at the chorus sections. The vocals and drums are my weak parts. I need practice, practice, practice..
Nov 01, 2008 11:08 pm Thanks, Olddog. Maybe I'll up the vocals a few. Maybe narrow the stereo spread on the vocals also ?

Nov 02, 2008 12:48 pm Nice piece of music for sure. I agree on the trip back in time as well, nicely done for sure. I liked the guitars myself, true to the era on the tone pretty much.
Nov 02, 2008 07:58 pm Fixed the drums (best I could) :) Reduced the delay and spread on the main vocal also. Drums sound better now (still not in perfect time though). Im getting too old. :) Also I reduced the main mix compression. I had a tad too much. I had a gospel band come out and lay down some tracks, so I'll be busy mixing them next week. Nice change of pace from my normal week. All original material and they sound pretty good. Bluegrass gospel at that. Im excited to get crackin on it.
Nov 03, 2008 11:14 am i'm really liking the sound on this,, i think the vocals can use a bit more... i dunno reverb or delay..something.. but thats just me
Nov 03, 2008 11:42 am Thanks Rhinokio. The original mix had alot more delay and I toned it down. :) I sort of liked it, but some felt it was too much. Thanks again for the listen

Nov 03, 2008 01:01 pm Sounds much better now. The vocal has more presence and in general there are more dynamics imho. Great song!
Nov 03, 2008 02:52 pm Thanks Nightcap. I had it too compressed. Plus fixing the drums makes a world of difference too :)

Nov 03, 2008 06:21 pm Drums sound sweet now indeed. And yes, the vox do have a better presence/place in the mix like that. I like this one for sure.
Nov 04, 2008 11:06 am Thanks Noize2u. Its election day people.
