Mar 12, 2003 12:20 pm Unfortunately, to my knowlege, this is an impossibility. I don't completely comprehend how MIDI works so I can't explain it to you, but wav can't go midi. Midi can be recorded to wav though...
Mar 12, 2003 12:32 pm A Midi file is basically a sequence of 'notes' and synth settings, so technically, no, a WAV could not be converted to a Midi file.
HOWEVER, there is some chunks of software that could 'interpret' simple notes in a WAV and translate them into MIDI. 'Simple' meaning a single instrument in which frequencies could easily be interpreted as notes.
A full WAV with multiple instruments and vocals would be nearly impossible to interpret, as the frequencies are merged into a single stream.
Eventually, it may be possible (since the human ear/mind combination can do it), but at this time, anything that exists is purely experimental!
Maybe a detailed explanation of what you are trying to do would help us solve your problem?

Mar 13, 2003 08:53 pm Yes, Sonar has a couple of options for doing some of what Waldo stated. I use one of their plugs to map out beats for replacing say a lame kick drum sound, or a bad bass guitar sound. You can replicate single instrument sounds this way, but now, you cannot take an entire song and have program map it all out in midi.
