What do I do with extra tom mics?

Hello,
I was seeking advice previously on drum mics (very helpful - thank you), and ended up with the CAD PRO 6-pack. I only want to use 4 mics total for drums- so I'm using the 2 overhead condensers, one kick and one snare. I am very satisfied with how well the overheads pick up the toms.

So... I'm left now with two extra tom mics I won't be using. My question is, what else would they be good for??? eBay?

By the way... only $186 for the PMP632C on this site below - they drop-ship directly from CAD. GREAT price, better than musiciansfriend.

maybe room mics?

if you're in a small room, place them outside of the room like a hallway....i've gotten some interesting sounds just by throwin' a random mic in a not so random place....

While it's a wonderful thing to get "the kit" with only the overheads (as everyone should strive for IMO), there are advantages with having the toms mic'd up...

You can add a little "thunder" in the center of a widely panned kit.

You can add a little wide "slap" in a narrow sounding kit.

You can drive verb with a PF aux send from the tom channels.

You can simply use them to support the overheads.

Point is, you certainly don't have to use every track you record - But if you have the capability to record them, 1's and 0's don't cost anything.

The reason I'm "limited" to four drum mics is because my Presonus has only 8 inputs. Four are dedicated to vocal, lead guitar, bass guitar & acoustic guitar. I could daisy-chain the Presonus to another one - but I'm not good enough to really care - drums sound great now as they are. (my novice opinion)

Great idea about the hallway/room mic - I don't always record with 3 guitars, so I will definately use at least one mic for that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yup, if you don't have many other mics you could use them on Guitars or Bass cabs.

I probably would not get rid of them as you won't get much and you may end up with more channels later on.

Last but not least, even if tracking only 8 channels you can always add more later. Those tom mics would probably work well on a bongo and perhaps a few other instruments.

I think one thing all us home recording folk can agree on is that you can never have too many mics.
