cd burn question

my cd burner is weird. usually it burns audio just fine with no change in the sound quality. but sometimes when a song has the drummer smashing away on a slightly open high-hat or crashing on the ride cymbal, there is a tinny/echo type sound that is heard in the background. It's not noticeable at all except on certain tracks. is this maybe because there is an imperfection on the cd, or is it just my burner not burning correctly. This sound is heard on the pc AND the burned disc, so i know it's not just the crappy Imation discs i'm using.
Any thoughts as to what this could be?
Thanks,
The FunkDady

Burn it slower, like 2x or so and see what happens. Fast buring does sometimes adversely affect the sound.

i'm sorry i don't have the specs and stuff in front of me, but i don't have the internet at home. so i have to come to my college's campus to ask you guys questions. I'm going home right now, so i'll check it out and let you know. your solution sounds simple enough though.

What type of files are you burning? I have encountered something very sililar to this when burning from MP3 files. The MP3 compression creates "compression artifacts" which sound like what you describe.

i suppose i'm burning from MP3, i wouldn't think windows would use another format.

DB-there is a scale that has looks like this

low quality-----------high quality

i was copying at a pretty low quality and that may be the problem. i'm going to boost the quality of the copying and see what happens.
thanks

Are the files that you're burning to CD MP3s or are they WAV files? If they're MP3s, I almost guarantee that's the problem.

Yes indeed. I have burned out of Win Media Player. And you do have to turn the Quality all the way up for it to sound good.
