I just plugged my SP2's back in for the first time since MAy, and I am only getting sound from the horns. What could be wrong here??

Jul 29, 2008 03:09 pm Yes I am using a Driverack DRPA usually, but to troubleshoot I am just using now a Mic to Powered Mixer to SP2 and thats it. Usually I use the Bi-Amp insert on the SP2, but for troubleshooting purposes I am plugging into the regular Full Range insert. I also plugged the same setup into a 15" Monitor nearby and all worked just fine, so it is definitely the SP2's. But how can I figure out what is wrong? I very much doubt that I blew the speakers, as they were working fine last gig and I have not plugged them in since.
Jul 29, 2008 04:09 pm best way to tell what is going on, is to pull the MF driver out and test it by itself.
Find a pair of alligator clips. Hook them up in polarity to the speaker and to the 1/4" connector. And give it signal.
Try not to use the term "insert" when talking about speaker connections. You had me thinking of something else when you stated that. All of the sudden I was thinking you put a balanced cable on your speaker.
So, if you apply signal hooked up in this fashion. And you still hear nothing. Then you have a blown driver.
If you hear signal at that point. Then you have a connection or internal crossover problem.

Jul 30, 2008 09:43 am I put a 9-Volt battery on the speakers themselves and got 1 initial click and thats it, tapping the wires off and on produced nothing, no pumping of the speaker or noise, nothing. So when I got these things I also got the 12month ext warranty with them which is still in effect, so I decided it doesn't really matter whats wrong with them, the fact is they r broken and need to be fixed so I started the process of sending them back to Peavey under the warranty. Hopefully, I can get them back before our August 17th Gig. Fingers Crossed...

Aug 12, 2008 09:00 am Got the answer back as to what was wrong with my SP2's. Too much power was sent from the AMP and the Voice Coils melted. Well, now I know. Again, the weird thing is everything was fine for the entire gig, so I don't know how this occured and how we didn't realise it, but it did. I will set the Limiters on my DRPA this time after I get these fixed, maybe I can keep it form happening again. Thats the scary thing is I don't know why it happened to begin with, no clipping occured with the AMPS, no sound change, I had a proper Gain Structure applied, all was fine. It just mysteriously happened, and we arte not even a loud band, we play very comfortably, in fact many would say we don't play loud enough, as you will never leave one of our shows with your ears ringing.
