I just started using FruityLoops today and I have a question:
I have an intro that I want to play for about 10 seconds and then I want to play the rest of the track. How do I do this since FruityLoops only allows 16 beats per bar?
Thanks for any help.

Jul 25, 2008 01:21 am Actually, that 16 beats limit is only if you're using the step sequencer. (the piano-ish dropdown looking thing where you highlight each bar) When recording audio, or piano roll/midi, a pattern can be any length. You should have an icon at the top that lets you open the playlist. This kinda gives you a visual representation of each pattern. However, an entire song can be contained within one pattern.
So as long as you're recording, whether audio, or via midi-controller, it won't stop after 16 bars. However, if you're playing back a pattern where you only used the step sequencer, it will repeat that pattern.
Honestly, I just hit record and start playing, or if I have a specific idea I'll start entering data into the piano roll. Also, there's a little toggle switch/button next to the play button. If you have it set to "pattern" then only that pattern that is showing will loop on playback, whereas if it's set to "song" then it will play the whole thing from beginning to end like a normal track.
Hope that helps.

Jul 25, 2008 02:52 pm Wow, FL is in v8?!?! I don't think I have played with it since v3 or so.
Crazy.

Jul 25, 2008 03:19 pm Yeah, FL Studio has come a long way since v3. I remember back when I first started getting into messing with VSTs and SF2s back in v.3.4. There were some parts of it that were quite a bit "klunky"
Nowadays things work quite a bit more smoothly. There's still the odd kink or two, but they're minor issues. Some of the new plugs that come with 8 are interesting. I haven't used them extensively since I prefer the things I've found on KVR, but still, fun to mess with.
