heres a weird one for ya...
my nokia mobile's got a voice recording function on it and ive recorded quite a few interesting sounds and quotes whilst ive been out and about with it, and i want to transfer them onto my pc
its got a stereo output for a handsfree kit and im gonna take one end of an adapter for that and solder it onto a regular headphone jack so i can plug it into my mixer
question is, does it matter which of the stereo wires from the adapter solders to the headphone jack? is there a positive and negative?
bizarre question, i know...

Feb 24, 2003 12:03 pm the tip is *usually* the positive. 99% of the time you'll solder the tip lead to the tip lead and the ring lead to the ring, etc.
but isn't the output on microjack, the uh... 3/32" or whatever? cause you can get those at radioshack (or maplin i think its called over there) in female or male or whatever you need.

Feb 24, 2003 10:34 pm OOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOO mister flame. the jack you speak of carries both signals from the mic and to the ear piece. It is not just a stereo jack for say stereo headphones. So be carefull how you wire it. You can easily fry the phone. I would maybe suggest buying one of those cheap headsets for a cell phone, and then chop into the earpiece and find the correct wire that way.

sorry!
but i think that's what he's planning on doing noize, is chopping up teh cbales and wiring himself a new connection. i guess it wouldn't hurt to get a cheap old speaker out of some headphones or and old telephone and try touching off the differenrt lead on the speaker terminals until you find out which ones are carrying the headphone signal.
dude, you should really get a minidisc recorder. it's the ultimate budget sampler, totally partable, CD quality audio, and cheap. read my Recording Tips article under "Do It Yourself" if youre interrrested.
