I have never used MIDI before and I am trying to put together a recording setup for personal use. I have recorded audio on a couple of different computer setups but never MIDI, and I know basically nothing about how it works. What I wish to accomplish is to create a drum beat with MIDI for the music I record(guitar, bass, vocals).I want to have plenty of freedom and also the capability to expand into sampling in the future, maybe.I am looking at a drum machine or mabybe a percussion pad controller. I want to be able to buy different software with different drum sounds to use.Can I do that with a drum machine thats not really expensive? Can I plug the percussion control pad into my m-box2 and record in MIDI?How does it all work? Please help me, I'm a newbie and need advice and info.Thankyou guys for any help you can give.

Thanks dB that helped alot.So I can take something like the m-audio trigger finger plug it into a m-box2 and use drum sample software to create beats for my songs?

Well I guess what I should really ask is where is the midi sequencing is happening? Is it in the interface(m-box2)or in the protools le software? I hope I am not being annoying, I know I will learn all this stuff once I get the gear but I would like to make an educated purchase. Unfortunatly I lack the experience to do so on my own. Any more links you could provide where I can learn more about this or other subjects along the lines of what I'm working with would be greatly apreciated. I have a great desire to learn, I'm just a little nieve.

Sorry for not seeing this sooner.

ya the midi sequencing is in the software such as PT or Sonar or the like. There are still a handful of hardware units such as keyboard workstation that have on board sequencing and some drum machines do as well. Things like the Korg Electribe and such do also.

But in your case, as long as you have midi in PT then that is were it will happen.
