I'll assume you're talking about panning. You'd normally use a pan envelope, also called an pan automation envelope. I don't use Cubase, but alot of others here do and they'll be able to tell you how to set that up. In the mean time, I'd suggest going through the tutorials and the Help section and see if you can find information on panning, envelopes, and automation somewhere in there.

Two ways that I know of to do this. One like Keith mentioned is pan automation. The other way is to use a ping pong effect plug-in. Hit up kvraudio.com to track one down for free.

Chopper from MDA will do this. It has a stereo mode where the sound will bounce back and forth from L to R, and a mono mode where it will simply cut the sound in and out. You can sync it with the project tempo, select the beat divisions and even the waveform for how it "chops" (square, triangle, ramp up/down, etc.)

Not the greatest plugin due to some introduced clicking in my experience, but it does the job at least.

Depends on what you bouncing back and forth. The ping pong like effects are the best per my experience as apposed to using the automated panning. Just a lot nicer to hear as you adjust. Some things are a little harder. I wanted to pan strikes on two crashes back and forth as they were recorded on the same mono track. Not good. One crash would ring out beyond the attack of the other one and the result was a flaky sounding mess. Ended up just putting crashes on different tracks.

Go to your 'edit' window (main window)

Click the 'R' (read automation) button on the channel you want to automate

Now click the little '+' sign on the bottom left of the channel.

Click on 'Volume'. A drop down menu should appear, and from it select 'Pan Left-Right'.

Now click once on the blue line where you want the effect to happen and drag the 'dot' as far up as it can go. Click again and make the next one a couple of seconds away, as far down as it can go. Repeat as necessary.

Hit play and marvel at the wonders of channel automation.

Here's a video explaining how to do it too, just in case you're a visual learner (I know I am)
