Here is my gear:
Rode NT-1A/Shure SM57, PG48, C606
--> M-Audio Audio Buddy
--> MOTU 828 mkII Firewire
--> PC running Windows XP SP2, with SONAR 6 SE
--> M-Audio BX-5a Monitors
Poor in quality, right? (Especially the mic-pre, isn't it?)
I'd like to spend about US$2000 for upgrading my gear.
Mostly I use soft samples hence only vocal/guitar recording is needed.
I use software audio plugin hence no need to use hardware one in this moment.
Please criticize my recent gear and give me some advices.
Thanks all~~

Mar 14, 2008 06:25 am Heck, what you have blows my stuff out of the water.
MXL 990/991, Shure SM58/57 Neumann M147 (I may have your mics beat on that one)
-->I don't even have a mic pre
-->Tascam US144 USB Interface
-->PC Running XP
-->Sony mini-system speakers (African American engineered style)
If you're going to go all crazy, get a nice tube amp. At least that's what I would do. (Mine was a gift) But for 2,000$, you could buy what you have already twice! You might wanna think about getting a bunch of stuff with that 2 Grand, but you have to ask yourself what you're trying to accomplish first. What do you feel your music is lacking? (Not hardware, but sound wise?)
Mar 14, 2008 06:46 am I think your setup is fine for what you are doing. Put that money away until you find out exactly what you need on your own.

Mar 14, 2008 12:41 pm Motu makes nice stuff.
The nt1-a although not a top of the line mic is definitely not cheap junk.
I use the same exact monitors which I simply want to add a sub to.
I'm with the other guys, for a home recording setup that is fairly nice gear.
Can I ask why you think it's poor quality?
Mar 14, 2008 01:00 pm Well, the audio buddy isn't exactly boutique. For two grand though you could add an AKG c414, or Rode NTk or..... and Pick a mic pre that you like.
How bout the UA S610 solo?

Mar 14, 2008 01:51 pm I see those solo's going on ebay around 5-600 :) I would like one.
I also love my Rode K2 which can be found around $500.

Mar 14, 2008 01:56 pm The AKG 414 is a great recommendation. I wish I could afford one myself. Great mic. I think even with the pre you have you would get great results.
