ok. so currently i've been using garageband but now i'm feeling limited so i think it's time to upgrade. I don't want to spend loads of money on software but i wanna get what will do me best, and i really don't wanna spend more money on something i dont need.

my interface is a Phonic Helix12FW MkII 12 here's a link www.zzounds.com...m--PHOH12FWMKII

im very happy with it.

I am looking for a FAIRLY easy to use program but these are some requirements i need.

- at least 32 tracks
- i need to be able to record at least 8 tracks at the same time
- i would like lots of good plug ins and virtual intruments included.
- lastly, i want to use my MIDI controler (axiom 49) to control the mixer on the program.

i have a mac but am considering running sonar with boot camp. i've heard tons of great things about sonar but i dont know which one would fit my needs best with out paying too much for features i dont need.

sonar is my highest consideration but i'm also mildly considering logic express (have had some bad experiences with it) or cubase.

what do you guys think would fit my needs?

thanks

Have you looked at Tracktion? It's pretty cool and seems to work on Macs and the developers were rather proactive in getting it to work with a lot of interfaces. We're I not a big Cubase fan (just a familiarity/comfort thing) I'd likely be using it. The GUI is different, but very user friendly.

Tracktion is a really awesomely cool application. My only issue with it is since it works so different from every other application if you ever change apps much of your acquired habits and such won't work, whereas with so many other applications they work enough alike that the knowledge is more transferable.

i looked at Tracktion and it looks good but the interface looks very different and i dont thnink i want to use that. I've heard great thing from both sonar and cubase so it's basicly which one and which version would suit me best? The main 2 im looking at are sonar home studi xl and cubase se 3 or cubase studio 4.

Well the Sonar HS xl comes with almost the same synths and plug's as Sonar 7 Studio Academic. Although I believe the Studio Academic does come with a couple more. But no app comes with a huge amount of synths. But on the brighter side there are tons of them available for free on the web, so that isn't even a consideration.

I personally like the way Sonar handles loading synth's and pluggin's myself. But some do like Cubase as well. I find that Cakewalks interface is much more user friendly then most others, and can now in version 7 be modified to suite your desired workflow style.
