splitting up

I have a yamaha mx200 mixer with stereo outs for for the amplifier and a mono out to feed into my delta44 inputs 1/2...I am using a y connector 1/4 female on one end and 2 1/4 inch male stereo connectors on the other end....I have a xlr to 1/4 adapter and I place a short mike cable on the xlr side of the adapter and connect the 1/4 inch male end into the female end of the y cable and I take the 2 1/4 inch ends of the y connector and feed the into inputs 1 and 2 of the delta44...Is this keeping the signal in true stereo or should I go into just one input and assign to two tracks????

!?! i tried to draw this out on paper and I'm still not sure what you're doing. SO let me get this straight:

You're outputing a mono XLR source from the mixer, into a mic cable with an XLR to 1/4 converter (still mono, balanced), into a 1/4 splitter which goes into an input pair on the Delta 44?

If you start with mono you're going to end up with mono. In fact (and I'm no expert or anything) you might even introduce some phase problems with splitting that balanced signal as if it were stereo (somebody help me out here!).

If you want to get that mono source into the Delta, you only need to send it into 1 input, not two. Just use the mic cable/and XRL to 1/4 adapter. You can center the pan for that soundcard channel from within the Delta control panel.

If you want to get a stereo image from the mixer to the delta, then maybe the tape outs will get you there. List all the outputs on that mixer, cause i can't find any good close-up pictures of it on the net. -j

Hey dude

Right, let's see - you have a Delta 44 and you want to be able to input the final stereo mix - simple enough

However, can I start off by commenting how ingenious your current setup is, it doesn't work (as it will only give you a mono signal) - but you tried damn hard to figure it out :D

Anyhoos. To get a stereo mix into your Delta's inputs, you need to use the "Rec Out LR" (which is #5 on that diagram) - these are phono jacks by the looks of things so you will need a phonos to 1/4" jacks converter lead (which won't cost too much) - you can then adjust the amount of signal you send into the Delta using the "Rec Out" Control.

You may also want to hook up a couple of those AUX outputs into your Delta's inputs (say 3 & 4 for example) - so that you can track individual channels / instruents into your Computer - this is easily done by hooking an AUX SEND (# 8 on the diagram) into an input on the Delta 44.

Hope that helped.

cool thanx for the comment...yeah I thought I was getting only mono...are you talking about 2 rca phono cables 1 for rec out left and 1 for rec out right and go into inputs 1 and 2 on the delta or 1 phono y cable with 2 male phono ends and 1 1/4 end going into 1 input channel of the delta? And I dont use the aux's because I have output 1 and 2 from the Delta going into 2 channels on the mixer to monitor.
