I cant get rid of HISS in my Yamaha MW10 Mixer

even when no inputs are plugged into the mixer, there is still this horrid "hissing" noise. its really messing up the clarity of my vocals and guitars! what can i do to fix this problem?

You might have a channel gain or all the gains turned up too far. This will cause some noise at times. That or you may have a bad cable plugged into it somewhere.

yeah, hiss=gain staging....

start with EVERYTHING zeroed out...all faders at 0db (not all the way down) all mic pre's counter clockwise, and all main outputs at -infinity....

hiss happens early in the signal path and gets amplified over and over again, which more prominence in the mix...so it's best to nip this one in the bud....check all your preamps, and make sure all that are not being used are all the way down....maximize your headroom by keeping channel and main faders at 0db (unity).

also on this topic, read up on "signal to noise ratio" this is a common speck in darn near all audio gear....this is the amount of noise it produces.
