Well the compressor should hook into a channel insert to be used on the vocals only. The EQ you can one of two things with it. Hook it between your main outputs of the mixer and the amplifier. Or you can hook it into an aux send/return pair as well. The first option being the most useful for overall sound.

Hey Kenny. A couple schools of thought come into play here. First school of thought is to compress the entire singnal. In doing so, you are, more or less, keeping a lid on the entire signal going to your speakers. Vocals, CD play back, the works. Second is to compress only the vocals. Both are fine. It just depends on what your needs are. So, lets look at what your needs may be, and how to hook each one up. For the first part. This is used when you have a very high volume going to your speakers, and you are trying to stop them from clipping. Here, you run a cable from your mixer, to the compressor. From the compressor, to the EQ. EQ to the amp, amp to the speaker. (Signal Flow!)You do this for both sides, Left and Right. The second is alittle more complex. To understand it, you must know about insert points. There are two types of insert points. Single point, and discret. Single point means that you have one TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) cable that termintes to two 1/4" cables. On your board, on in the manuel. It will tell you what is + - and ground. Unless your using an older english (Made in England) board. Your insert will be Tip send, Ring return, and common ground. This means that the tip of the connector sends signal to your compressor. The ring brings the signal back to the board. And ground is just that. Your two 1/4" cables will be marked Tip and Ring. Discret, just means that there are two sepeart connections on your board. One marked send, the other return. Now, you plug the TRS cable into the channel you want to compress. In the insert point. The 1/4" marked tip goes to the input of the compressor. The other goes to the output of the compressor. This will only compress the channel it's plugged into. So, if it is the vocal, only the vocal will compressed. The advantage here is you have a strong singer come up, they will not overpower the CD play back. Also, in compression theroy, you are not losing the low or high end out of your speakers. Compressors do just what is sounds like. They compress the wave closer to 1khz. Moving it out of the low and high end. So your CD play back is not effected. Try both. See which one works better for you.
