I want to rackmount my Delta 44 soundcard because I noticed that the manual said this was possible. My question is whether the Universal rack tray in the M-Audio store at their website is the thing to do it with. I was wondering if anybody here has used this rack tray with their Delta 44/66, and whether it comes with the necessary hardware to secure the break out box to it. If not, how should you go about doing this? As usual I have e-mailed M-Audio about this and have not recieved an answer.

I'm using the delta 44, and it didn't seem to be rack mountable to me, but I guess if attach it somehow to a rack tray it would work....

yeah, all of my M-Audio equipment (Delta 44, Audio Buddy, and Midisport 2x2) have these little pre-threaded holes in the botton where you can screw them into just about anything. i wouldn't raelly concider that "rack-mountable" unless you concider them more like "anything-mountable"

Yes they do. I am bummed at their response time though. I have never waited more the half a day for an answer about anything from them. You can get yoru local music store that reps M-Audio to oreder it for you if you have the number from teh website.

Oh, hell, with a 1 3/4" by 19" piece of sheet metal, a power drill, a small milling machine and some paint you can make anything rack mountable.

Well, it's nice that they put that hole in the bottom of their stuff, because I'm not a big fan of duct tape all over my studio gear :-) I finally did get a response from M-Audio. I suppose I was being a bit impatient, but they have been very, very slow in the past. The Universal rack tray is the right thing to use, but in the end I don't think I'm going to rackmount it anyway :-) I spent the money on a power conditioner instead. Oh well, thanks anyway guys.

Oh yeah, just looked at the bottem of my Delta 44 and saw what you were talking about. Hey I got a question that I wanna ask but don't really wanna start a new post over: Can I plug my stuff straight into the Delta without a mixer, or do I need to run them through Direct Boxes first?

M-Audio seems to say you can. In fact, they stress not using a mixer. They say nothing about using direct boxes in the manual, just pre-amps if necessary.

Interesting... wonder why they'd stress not using a mixer... maybe since they have a mixer built into the card.

Yup, their direct input's are great for line level stuff. But remember if your micing something to use a pre, it is the best way to get a good signal level.

I think they probably just want you to buy their Audio Buddy pre-amps :-) Maybe they think they'll get more business if people don't think they neeed a seperate mixer so they won't go and buy something like the Aardvark Q10. But then again, they have the Omni studio break out box, so maybe not...

Hey Loki, you got me thinking... what do you mean by "stuff"? Some things this is okay to do with, some not.
