...in 10 days. Starting to get excited about the whole thing. We are (for the first time) able to leave the kids behind. Wahooo!! Anyways the place we are going to is just south of Playa Del Carmen (which is just south of Cancun).
We will be going on an adventure tour where we go on a zip line, repell into a huge sink hole, see the Mayan ruins etc etc.
Anyone else been there before. Its a first for me. well other than Tijuana lol.

Nov 21, 2007 02:07 am Just think, when your're on your way back through the US, you'll be a whole new sub-group of immigrant!! lol, just playin.
Yeah, my 'ex' step father was from peru, but had alot of friends there, so I've been there a couple times, though I was too young to remember anything interesting. I do remember this lesson though- dont buy anything from a 'random' local. It's either stolen, fake, poisoned, or a ''hit marker'' as they call them there. Fair warning! lol Just be cautious and on your toes.

Nov 21, 2007 02:09 am P.S. bring a stash of your home country's currency. preferably American dollars. You can still live like a king for 10$ a day in the right places, believe it or not.

Actually, no US soil for me. We fly from Vancouver to Toronto and then to Cancun.

Yes, I've heard this before. Another thing is that apparently all "ligitimate" silver merchants will weigh the silver before charging you. If they don't then it's fake.
Most of the time we will be at an all-inclusive resort so not too much extra cash is required but we are planning on a couple of days shopping in Playa Del Carmen.
More than anything, its getting away from work and the kids. If nothing else it will be a great vacation because of this alone.
Nov 21, 2007 09:23 am dude, that sounds like so much fun...I prolly won't have any vacation this year myself, so, do you mind if I live vicariously thru you?
Be careful down there, outside resorts it can be a scammers paradise.

Nov 21, 2007 09:32 am Ya, I've been to the Dominican Republic before and I'm expecting this to be similar. Third world countries can have a lot of desperate people. We are staying at a 5 star resort so I'm not worried about anything while we are there but when we venture off into the towns you can be assured that I will be keeping my guard up.

Nov 21, 2007 05:00 pm The last real holiday I had was about 8 years ago. I almost forget what it's like. Work has been extra stressful right now so this is REALLY needed for both of us.
I'm bringing over 8 gigs worth of memory cards so I should have quite a few photos.
