As they say on "Garage Logic"...Here's today's Ray of Hope:
At my daughter's school, there has been in intense effort to build a Community Playground. It's been in the planning stages for over two years All of the money has been raised through grants and donations.
This weekend is the build. I spent last night and most of today building some of the decking.
We've had OVER 700 PEOPLE from the community helping out. Many of them were students from the local university. They came to fulfill their community service obligations, and then they came back because they had such a great time helping out.
Very heart-warming to see community members from all walks of life get together and do something great for kids!
Check out the progress in the galleries:

Oct 13, 2007 09:41 pm That is one hell of a playground. Thats cool to see all those people helping out for sure. Just proves there are still some good people in the world willing to help out.

Please, whatever you do, make sure there's at least one tetherball pole so kids can legally smack each other around.
Also, that jungle gym should be built above asphalt or concrete, not sissy sawdust or sand.
Use solid steel chains for the swings. The bigger the links, the better.
Maybe, if a few more kids die of natural causes during recess, there will be fewer to kill with firearms in the classrooms and hallways.
Thanks.
Herb

Oct 14, 2007 10:13 am I get it...
Playgrounds the way we had them, rusty, sharp edges and everything. The only way to play.
