I have a Behringer PMH3000 Powered Mixer. Last night at rehearsal we started to hear the Hatian Radio Network out of the Speakers, along with a noticeable difference in sound from the PA. What could be the problem here??

Did you buy the mixer from Spinal Tap? Kidding.

You had a rogue radio station there, with perhaps a rogue engineer. The communications regulations of other countries vary widely, and often don't hold the same standards as our beloved FCC in the U.S. Where do you live?

South Florida. It has never happened before, and coincidentally I was running our PA in Bridged Mode for the first time and thought that might have had something to do with it, so I changed it back to stereo mode, and it was still happening.

You're pretty close to Haiti.

Certain atmospheric conditions can allow some radio stations to seem more powerful at times, but it's also possible that the station was (temporarily?) overpowered. It's probably tough to find good radio engineers in third world countries.

If it is an overpower issue, it's very possible that the problem will go away when the radio station realizes what it's doing. Outside of that, you can try cables with better shielding or - last resort - moving your rehearsal inside a metal building.

I just thought of something-

It's an AM station, and they probably just forgot to lower its power at sunset. It happens.

I was also thinking... we had a gig over the weekend and I had to set everything back up in the studio. I may have the Speaker cables running in a bad location, maybe alongside some power boxes or something. I will check when I get home.

I had to plug into a different receptacle in the wall and it fixed the problem. Is this a bad ground in the wall socket maybe??

Were you getting the interference last night before you switched outlets? If so, I would suspect the house wiring. If not, I would chalk that up to coincidence and conclude that the problem was the radio station's as I suggested.

We always used the same outlet. We went to a gig Saturday, came back and set everything back up on Monday, plugged everything in and radio noise occurred. So I tried a different Power Strip and the same thing. I plugged into a completely different wall socket and voila noise was gone. So it has to be the socket. Next step is figuring out how to fix it.

The house wiring is bad, the outlet that has the problem may be an older install, perhaps the other was newer, better shielding, better cable, better grounding, something like that.

Very interesting none the less. Have you tried a power conditioner (as opposed to simple power strip)? If it's bad wiring I doubt that would help much though I suppose.

Lazy, cheapo Herb would just continue to use the good outlet until forced to do otherwise.
