XP vs. Vista to run Reason 3.0 (w/ Firepod)

Hi everyone! I have an HP Compaq w/ 1.73 ghz centrino processor and 750 MB of Ram at 400 Mhz. I faced a problem in running Reason 3.0 with XP and then installed Vista to the laptop and retried. The problem with XP was a delay (a huge latency say more than 1 sec.) and with Vista this is resolved. However, I am still having some trouble while recording via MIDI (i.e. some of the notes are eliminated while playing but there is no latency in general) My question; do you think the resources and XP is insufficient to run Reason 3.0 with a firewire Presonus FirePOD and I should insist on running Reason on Vista? Best...

If this is the case it would be a very first time anyone has ever said running something on Vista was actually better or faster. I would suggest something was probably wrong with your XP install or the setup of Reason or the audio drivers in the XP install.

Thank you for quick reply.

So it's a good idea to re-install XP, and the drivers of the sound card and then Reason I think. As I understood from your reply, it should not be a hardware insufficiency problem. Right?

No, it'd not be a problem of lack of hardware under XP, but I could see where it would be under Vista. Vista is a resource hog and 750 MB RAM could be an issue, but I don't think it would be under XP.

www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=253 is an article for help fine tuning XP to get the most out of it too...it might help.

Make sure you are using ASIO drivers in Reason as well. Based on the Reason site DirectX or ASIO drivers are best, of the two, I'd use ASIO.

Thank you very much for your help!! I've solved the problem after re-installing the XP, drivers and Reason. By the way, for those who are using Firepod and are considering to transfer to Vista, drivers that are downloaded from Firepod website might not work. We tried on two systems (one of which was much stronger than mine)and in both systems this driver did not work. I think Vista still have some time to be improved.
Best Regards...
