How to send computer mixer effects to recording software

Howdy - n00b here.

I have an EMU 0404 soundcard, with the accompanying PatchMix virtual mixer. For recording, I'm using Acoustica Mixcraft v. 3.

I've got this great custom effect tweaked in the PatchMix console, and I want that sound, as I hear it in my headphones, to be recorded in Mixcraft when I'm recording a track.

What happens is that if I record a track with that effect active in the mixer, upon playback of the track in Mixcraft, and with the effect turned off on the mixer, I no longer here that effect - in other words, the recording only captures the raw signal from the input (from my guitar), without the effect.

Does that make any sense? Can anyone help me figure out how to send the mixer effects to Mixcraft when I'm recording a guitar track?

Thanks for the help.

Danny S.

First off welcome to HRC.

I'm not a huge PatchMix fan at all. I found a few flaws in it that just turned my head.

But, on we go. I think there is a routing option to enable that will send the FX you have assigned to the recording application. I forget who is using that same type set up, but hopefully he will catch this post and pop in with an answer.

If I do find anything though I will let you know.

exactly how are you hookin' up the mixer to the computer....

from you post, you're definately sending a 'pre effect' signal to the computer. which means you have to figure out where exactly in the chain are the effects placed.....try pluggin' into some sort of 'main out' instead of 'monitor out'....gimme a link to your mixer and interface and i can get deeper.

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I will definitely have to read the 800 page EMU manual... I was hoping someone knew the answer off the top of their head.

ciao.

Howdy, and thanks for the reply.

There is only one place to "plug in" - this mixer is a software mixer, not a physical mixer. Here's the EMU manual:

www.emu.com/support/files....81B%20(EN).pdf

I know I need to read this thing myself - I was hoping someone knew off the top of their head what to do.

thanks for any help!
