Aug 12, 2007 01:49 am Sounds great old dog! How did you get that acoustic guitar sound on the left?? Trying to get that sort of sound myself.
I might pull the hi hat down a little and take some of the drum reverb off. Kick sounds great in the mix to me! And sometimes I can't tell what your singing, but thats the Bob Dylan influence right? ;-) Kudos on the harmonies as well!
Aug 12, 2007 02:54 am olddog, are you and Bob stepchildren? You've certainly copped the vibe here. On the drum sounds, I agree with CS. Good job on this one!
Aug 12, 2007 09:23 pm Dog,
I'm sure you knew I'd like this one! I'm a huge Dylan fan, and I rather enjoy most of the Byrds' covers of his stuff. This certainly has the OldDog trademark sounds to it. Nicely done.
I love the jingly-jangly sound of the guitars. What did you do to get the 12-string sound on the guitar solo? (Or is a 12-string electric one of your new toys?)
Bass drum needs a little something...not sure what though...
Vocals sound good...the highest harmony could perhaps be a little louder. They sound very real...I'm guessing that you didn't use your harmony unit on them.
Great cover as usuual!

Aug 13, 2007 12:00 am Thanks colonel, all the guitars are the electric Line6 Variax and then I used Guitar Rig 2 for the amp/processing. The acoustic 12 string I think was the Martin D12-28 patch. I'm working on a new mix lowering the hat & tamborine a bit. If you think I'm hard to understand on some of the lyrics try listening to Roger McQuinn on the Byrds version. LOL
Herb, I don't know about stepchildren, but He sure writes cool tunes. :) Yup I'm gonna do some more work on the drums in the mix. Thanks for checking it out & commenting I appreciate it!
Jim
I thought you might like this one, I'm more a fan of The Byrds which is why this one is more in their style, but I really like alot of what Dylan did and I think this one is one of his best.
My new toys were the Variax 700 & Guitar Rig 2 and I was dying to see how the 12 string models would sound which is why I picked this song. Overall I think the models are fairly convincing, though they aren't going to replace a Rick or real 12 string acoustic. The mix I'm working on brings up the hi harmonies along with rythm guitars a bit and more work on the drums. Funny thing was I did use the VW, but then noticed I had already sung the hi part (which surprised me <G>) so the VW is still there but underneath the one I sang. Thanks for the listen & comments!

Aug 13, 2007 03:30 am God damn guitar rig! You've tricked me for the last time!!! :-).
Aug 13, 2007 07:41 am New mix sounds better to my ears. Bass drum doesn't stand out to me anymore, and harmonies are blended better with the high part more prominent.
That's a great sound you got from the Variax. You're a sly old dog, OldDog!

Aug 13, 2007 10:26 pm HOLY ****!
OD, that rocks like no other. I'm with Jim on the second version. I'm headed off shortly here and only had a quiet listen, but I'm gonna crank it up tomorrow and give a better listen.
Sorry I can only have one thumb up for this. If it had a ten thumb choice I would easily have given it that, even on a quiet listen.

Aug 14, 2007 01:28 am Sorry 'bout that colonel what can I say I'm a tech nut! :D
Jim:
I'm liking the Variax quite a bit, it does a really good Strat & Tele sound along with quite a few others. I decided if I was going to buy a new guitar I'd get something that would be versatile, maybe spark my creative side of the brain. :)
Noize:
Thanks a bunch glad you liked it! I think I might still have the drums a bit too prominent in the mix but they'll do I think which will probably be even more apparent when you crank it. I'm going to start working on an original now so I think I'll stay with this 2nd mix, but if I have too much hi-end in the mix I'll be adjusting that for sure. Thanks again, much appreciated!

Aug 14, 2007 08:32 pm Man, I was singing right along with it. And not many tune get me doing that these days, well maybe a few but you get my point. I loved it for sure, loud was still very good!
I do see what you mean about the drums maybe being a bit out front, but they are honestly not real bad. I personally like the high end up a little on it myself.
I really liked the guitar sounds you got, very deep and full sounding. MI Guitar rig is pretty decent as well. Not sure I would trade off my Line 6 stuff for it but if one ever drops from heaven I won't give it back. :-)
I liked the harmony parts just fine as well. They sounded great.
I simply love the way you do these tunes OD, your version's are absolutely great.

Aug 16, 2007 12:35 am Yeah, I'm not getting rid of my GT6 any time soon either. :) I mainly grabbed GR2 for convience and being able to later change my mind easily on the sound I chose, that and the price dropped $150. <G>
Thanks again for the kind words!
