latency problem with cubase

hello all
when i try to change ASIO drivers in cubase as my midi keyboard is responding too slowly, my screen either freezes then crashes or just crashes with either a

system memory dump

or

IRQ failure

message so i think my IRQs are overloaded..how do i reduce my latency without this crash?
