I am planning to purchase the following for a PC based recording setup:

Cakewalk Sonar 6 OR Cubase SE, Alesis Multimix with FX mixer, Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic, ION IED04 drum machine (question about the drum machine) and the Line 6 tone port KB37 as an interface/midi controller.

Now, am I waisting 100$ bucks on the mixer, because I do want the best mix for vocals and I'm not certain about the Line 6's software pre-amplifiers for the mics soley for getting a great mix?....

also, I am not sure how to get the tracks I compose on the ION-IED04 Drum station to my computer. I haven't received it yet BTW...so I'm not even sure what connections it has.. Thanks, I wont' forget yall when I become famous, LOL....

indeed.....eh I can make a cell phone sound like a professional microphone with 100 pre amps, haha I'll stick with that one FOR NOW...thank you tho.

Still, whats up with the ION IED04 DRUM MACHINE??? can I get the midi files I compose on it to my computer in the software I will be using??...(probablly Cakewalk Sonar 6)...If so, HOW???

thanks!!!

ANYONE???......well,the ION- IED04 Drum Machine seems to only have MIDI Output and a STEREO Input. Is it possible to get the things I will compose on the drum machine onto my computer???
or
Should I just look for another drum machine, cause its useless if I cannot get those midi files to my computer........THANX!

If you go with Sonar 6 you will get a software drum machine with it. Is there a reason you are going with a hardware unit as well? You do know that you can program your drum patterns and parts right into Sonar with the Line 6 KB37 unit? Unless you are buying the ION unit for using drum sticks with it I wouldn't waste that much money on another piece of hardware.

But yes, you can get the midi files into Sonar buy simply hitting record on Sonar and making sure the ION is set to start playback automatically when Sonar tells it to.

Yeah, I'll probably get the Producer's Edition of cakewalk sonar 6. Yeah, I figured it came with a software drum machine, and I could just use the controller on the KB37 along with the software...but, I already purchased the ION IED04 for real cheap (50 bucks) and I wanna see how that works out.

I was just confused/worried because it has no MIDI input on the drum machine, just MIDI output and STEREO input...so how would I connect the drum machine accordingly...I will have an Alesis 6 channel mixer in my setup by the way....along with the KB37.....Thanx NOIZE2U and or whomever has their input to offer....

The midi output will go to a midi interface input which Sonar will see and you simply choose that as the input for the midi track. I believe it should have stereo line output not input as well if it has on board sounds. You will be able to use either the software drum sounds or the on board drum sounds from the ION.
