Hello-
I was just wondering if anyone is able to get "wall of sound" john lennon vocals form just a few simple effects or peices of gear, I use a very lo fi rig, my main fx unit is (of all things) a yamaha rex50, I know ghetto. but I love and live lo-fi (recording on a fostex four track with a 1965 silvertone twin twelve amp for guitar and keys). I just want to know if anyone else tries to tweak things to get the same sound.

Mar 21, 2007 02:18 am Multiple Harmonies, recording the same vocal over the previous track, tube mic's the best producer and sound engineers.
Apart from that I couldn't really give an equipment answer - sorry!
Mar 21, 2007 02:49 am also, ya might wanna filter out the low end (300k and lower maybe?) and roll the highs off too....add a short fast single slapback echo and that'll get ya a bit close....ofcourse usin' a $3k mic through a $3k channel strip onto tape dosn't hurt either...

Mar 24, 2007 11:34 pm A lot of it is in the voice. Flame, who just happens to sound like John did it years ago on a couple tunes with just a simple plastic PC mic. I'm not kidding either. Its all in how you use it really.
But indeed, stacking vocal takes carefully will give a rich full sound. And very modest use of effects like chorus will help greatly.
