Whats the difference? I've seen the same terms used to describe many things but I'm not really sure what they are correctly used for.

Mar 02, 2007 09:24 pm Simply put, mixing is combining individual tracks into a final mix or song. Mastering is preparing those songs in a compilation (CD, etc.) for distribution, which involves smoothing the levels from track to track and making sure the final product sounds good as a whole. Look under "tips" at the top of the page.

Mar 04, 2007 02:39 pm Yep, simply put Herb. Mixing is as he stated making sure your individual tracks are effected and leveled the way they need to be to sound good before they are mixed down to stereo. Then they are sent to be mastered which takes care of any final EQ tweaks and overall leveling of the individual songs so that they fit together nicely into one complete package.
