Possible to listen to mixes on stero's in REAL TIME?

So, i was in a studio one time, and i never asked. but what they did was turn a few knobs on their mixer board (professional studio) and the playback of the session was playing through their 'in house stereo' system..

now i was wondering, i have the project mic, it has 4 line outputs, 2 of which are being used by my studio monitors, i have two left.

my question is, are their special radio's or something out there where i can just route my line out's to a stereo's line in? i'm sure i need a convector..

anyways can anyone shed some light on what i can do or any other ways besides wasting CDs to hear different mix's of my music?

You'd just have to have a stereo with an AUX input and have extra outputs on your mixer. The ones on the mixer will most likely be 1/4" and the inputs on your stereo would generally be RCA, so you'd need 2 1/4" to RCA cables.

I'm just a few days from hooking up my old home receiver and speakers to my PC's sound card (via S/PDIF optical) for just that reason. It will also give me the ability to mix to 5.1 should I want to...

unless you have some RCA outs on your mixer that you can put directly into your AUX input on your stereo receiver.

Uh, at least one more time . . .

What they all said. I monitor my mixes
through my Adcom pre-amp and amp. I do
what the studios (presumably) used to do:
send the mix through amplified speakers.
I have four speakers, two to a side,
two custom made by me (ok), and some
old Acoustic Images (real good). Mix out
(tape out) to pre-amp's CD in. Don't forget
to turn down the mixer's other inputs!

It's called 'foldback' . You route the outs of your soundcard back into the mixer, and route those channels to an auxiliary, or subout to the monitors . Make sure you don't route the foldedbacked back signal into the soundcard .
