Ok my old pa amp has died. It was only 150w per channel.
I need to replace it with an amp that will handle venue's up to say 200 people.
can anyone give me some ideas as to what power i would need in the amp and best budget makes behri, peavy etc?...

Feb 20, 2007 08:13 am do you have bass bins and hipacks, or just full range hipacks? I almost always ran Peavey amps in my PA's, they are inexpensive and run forever. I ran earlier version of this model www.zzounds.com/a--884907/item--PEVPV1500
The thing with Peavey is I have always thought they WAY overstate their power. I like their sound and price, but a 400 watt Peavey compares to about a 200 watt of other brands.

Feb 20, 2007 09:11 am I run Peavy 15" bass flex bottoms and bose tops.
Feb 20, 2007 09:14 am oh, sweet. I had horn/12" hipacks and 18" bins in my last active band...
I am assuming you have a crossover, or do you use a passive crossover in the one of the speakers themselves?
Crossover pre-speaker is best, then get different amps for the hipacks and bins. hipacks only need about half the power that the bins need.

Feb 20, 2007 10:41 am I use the passive. I hadn't thought of adding active crossovers. You just want me spending more money LOL

Feb 20, 2007 11:27 am If I was looking for a new amp I would probably go with a QSC around 1000 watts.
Feb 25, 2007 06:57 am The passive crossovers are ok but the bass cabs need a bigger amp when these are fitted.Depending on how much gear you want to carry,a mini rack with mixer/crossover/graphic/power amp and maybe effects on wheels would do the job.An all in one mixeramp may be ok if it has a good output and the passive crossovers are right for the speakers. On the Cerwin Vega bins they have a high out as well as a low filter.Behringer mixeramps are pretty good and cheap too.
