Is anyone here playing a G&L? I just got one this weekend and I absolutely love this guitar. I'm curious if anyone else is playing one (or any G&L) and what they think about it. I can tell already that I'm going to buy another one. Hmmm, now which one, that is the question.

Here's a link to a crappy picture of it. Gotta get a better shot, I know!

I REALLY want one of their Telecaster models. I've only laid hands on one a few months ago, but in the bang for the buck category, they're near the top. I've heard tons of great press about them, and have seen them rated well above their Fender counterparts many times.

Nice score man.

Fellow Cutaway Marv plays a G&L Telecaster model semi-hollow with the "soap bar" pickups hat just screams! He plays it through his Fender Hot Rod Deville tube driven amp and the sound is not of this Earth.

I've already requested that he will it to me.

Hey Tad, the real score was the price! Pretty hard to beat a freebie! Their tele's (ASAT's) are awesome. My buddy tried to talk me into one instead of this one but I really liked this model a lot. I was pretty specific in what I was asking for and this guitar is actually the very last one of its kind to leave the G&L factory (color has been discontinued). This is a brand new axe (never been played) but it is around 5 years old (or older) already.

The 25th Anniversary ASAT is one awesome guitar. I'd like to get one but it is out of my price range... at least for the time being.

From what I hear, bass players that want to move up from a Fender, move up to a G&L.

I play a G&L bass too! It kicks a Fender's butt (or it would if Fenders had butts.) And that's coming from a Fender man.

My very first guitar was a G&L legacy Special and even today and 6 guitars later it is still my favorite.

I really like G&L. The ASAT bass is really cool. Fender never really made a 'Telecaster' bass (well, I know they made one, but it didn't have the tele body shape like the ASAT).

Also, the strats play nice. Great sound.
I guess Leo Fender had a bit of a 'do-over' and G&L was the result. He was pretty much spot on with the strat/tele/precision/jazz right at the beginning, and he just fine tuned from there!

I'm really intrigued with their z-coil pickups. They look to be Fender's latest creation. I'm drooling over the Commanche right now. Sweet, sweet guitar.

That's the one, Lonnie. Pretty, pretty.
They sound like a million dollars.

I've been squirreling away my guitar lesson and gig money...so I go to Brickhouse Music in River Falls with $600 cash and the idea of buying some variety of a Fender Telecaster. So I played about every dang Fender that they had in the place, and they just didn't do it for me. So then I walk over an play a few G&L Tributes. It took me about sixty seconds with a G&L Tribute ASAT Special (blueburst colored) to realize that this was the guitar for me! (And I still went home with $150 in my pocket, so on the way home I stopped at K-Mart (not Wal-Mart) and bought a new RCA 24" TV set!)

Those soap-bar pickups (US Made) sound delicious!

Here's a stock picture of it:

IMO, G&L have the best bang for your buck. There quality is second to none and priced very low. Their Tribute line is built over seas but assembled with USA made parts. They are then setup/checked in the factory in California.

Uh, at least one more time . . .

Beerhunter,
It turns out that I have the same
guitar you do--a red G&L but with a Kahler
locking vibrato. I paid three hundred for it
about . . . my God, twenty years ago! The
kicker here is mine is a left-handed model,
with plain fretboard and micro switch for the
pickups. I modified it (!) by putting on
a pick guard, getting rid of the tone control,
and (!!) placing the jack on the top, under
the volume control. (The original failed, and
I like the thing on top.) I play the thing every day;
I love the tone, its super quiet,
and can take a beating. I also have a Standard Strat,
with plug on top, no flush-mount.

Yep, I'm not a big Fender fan although I played several for a few years. Just not comfy on me. but the G & L guitars do feel much better then the original counterparts from Fender.

I gigged with my new G&L for the first time last night. I must say that I'm very pleased with my purchase. It really bites through the muddy-ness of the whole sound...my sloppy guitar solos were heard above the din.

Highly recommended!

There is a G&L registry and discussion page over here www.guitarsbyleo.com/gldp/index.php3
Lots of G&L enthusiasts on the site. Well worth checking out if you like G&L guitars. G&L is owned by BBE now so there is lots of info on BBE products as well.
