A new song from a semi-musical I am writing. It is about a man in a bar musing life over drinks and thinking circular pointless thoughts. There is the sound of chair creaks in the back that kills me. I felt too lazy to stand and sing and so sat through the whole thing. Might redo...Feedback and comments appreciated:

The young have dreams intact
The old feel their done
The rich go and buy the world
The poor feel their pawns
The black man has no faith in law
The white man trusts it so
These are the days
When we ride high and low
This is life and its found
In each corner of this world
As it spins round and round
This is life and it flows
Like a river that’s flowing where nobody knows
These folks are the chosen one
These folks are not
This woman calls freedom home
This one’s locked up
This family grieves a loss of life
This family gives birth
This family’s star is bright
This one has no worth
Chorus…
Sometimes I feel that this balance is fair
It’s one of those grand scheming things
Who are the haves and who are the nots
Who are the caught in betweens
I stare at my drink
as I swirl round and round
The bar girl calls my name
A sweet distant sound
These are the days when
I think long and hard
My refuge from sunlight
In this dank smoky bar
This is life…
