Some more Experiments

This is just a looped 8 bar (190 BPM) base track. It wasn't multitracked so it's straight off the tail end of the mixer. How does it sound? Goofy? Drums beefy enough (for now, planning upgrades soon)? Bass strong enough? I know once I multitrack everything, I can make the drums and bass more present. But this is what I'm starting with. New song on the way! I have alot more arranging to do (listening to "No Doubt" these days), but only curious how you feel about the basic backing... 8 bars... not much to go on, I know... Is it a rip of something?

No rip that I can detect. I like the riff, and interestng dance groove. The drums shuffle along nicely and would keep the feet moving/tapping along for sure.

I'll give it another listen tommorrow a bit louder.

mmmmm definately a 'quirky' groove....i can definately hear a certain catcyness to it, IF in the right setting (LP albums excluded)....video games come to mind when i hear it. *second listen*....seems this is the first thing i've listen too on my roomates dell 5.1 (consumer edition) system with the speakers EXACTLY were i Wouldn't place them (and i'm not talkin' about bass trapped corners, i'm sayin left is behind me and on the right right is just to the left of the screen, left rear is literaly UNDER the screen (am i spellin' that right?)....and right rear is FAKIN' UNDER THE MATRESS!

end rant....small tangent for a BIG pet peave, but he's got a totaly seperate mentality for audio which i perfectly understand and do not really ***** about (although i have mentioned it about once a month for 3 months now, it's just not a big priority in his life *he's movin' to japan in may!* so fine....where was i?....:::

ok gotta re-read my post and listen a third time......kinda funny cus that's rather instainous for those/everyone reading.....grrrr

ok the drums sound phasey...this could be the reverb or just 'the sound' of it....i'd assume in a big room with loud speakers, this could be an issue, but if you're cookin' a noodle and seein' what happens, run with it.

which is something i have learned here lately...you absolutely must know the CONTEXT in which you want this track to go.....this rule is null and void IF you're dooin' it just to see what happens, personal fun, ect.....all artist have 30 good 'projects' before they have their first 'great'.....again' i'm drifting, seriously...you must aproach your 'idea/project' with the end 'goal/destanation' in mind..... be creatave and write often for you muse, but when money starts gettin' involved, you know what's the end use is gonna be.

....although i do like the drum loop, when you say "when i multitrack everything"...i'd assume the drum loop is just that, or atleast i gotta give you props for making me think it!....i'll get back in a min....i've GOT to eat now....brb

Thanks for the feedback whosyourdaddy! Yeah, I'm just screwin' around for the moment, some discovery. I usually mess around with the bass and rhythm first before I develop a song from it. I'll probably do 3 or 4 of these then take inventory, see what fits together. This is just recorded off the end of the mixer, it's mostly a Kurzweil K2500 4 stereo outs into the mixer. When I do a real recording, the drums, bass, synths, vocals, etc all get their own stereo tracks. Then I add reverb (digitally) to them individually. Right now, it's just a Lexicon MPX500 on the aux of the mixer, and it's kinda hissy and adds artifacts, so maybe that's what's doing it. This 100% midi, every note, every drum hit, etc has been clicked in using the mouse. No musicians were hurt during the creation... :) Thanks again!

Had a second listen, still like it. I can hear a lot of differant directions you could take this piece for sure. Mostly on the dance side really. But I cant wait to hear were you go with this one. It has a few good interesting probabilities to say the least.

Thats usually the way it works for me. Tossing little bits in here and there untill I get something that all fits together.

The fat one always watches us.
