Help I'm stuck in Utah!!!!!!!!!
Member Since: Dec 10, 2002

I have a Tama Rockstar, With 8",10",12",14" toms with 22" Bass. 2-16" Crashes, 22" Ride, 18" China Boy, 14" Hi-Hats and a 6.5" Zil-Bel. Oh, and a gibralter rack system. I have one SM11 mic. I want to know what would be the BEST mics for this setup. Right now I am really interested in the May Mounting sytem (the ones that go inside the shell) Are these worth the money and which mics should I throw in there?
Any advice would be helpful.

All I've ever used is Shure SM57's on my kit, and that works fine for me. You might want to us an actual kick drum mic though... I never had the cash to get one.

Ive found that drums... being that they are acoustic sound best mic'd at a distance. id get really good overheads first, maybe some condensers? just do the research. i know the inner mics will give more control, but id sacrifice control for great sound anytime. just get overheads for the most part, maybe a good snare mic and kick. that'd already be great in my experience, since a good drum set will already give u great sound, u wont have to eq every single shell. just get that natural sound that u hear.

to start I would get two condenser overheads (i use a pair of NT1's) and a kick mic... Then as money permits add a snare mic and then the toms... I use SM57's for those but I think the sennhiser e604 are better ...expecially being smaller :)
