Guys

I hope (I think) I havent posted this up before - alas, at this time of year I am slowly loosing my mind ;-) !! Busy busy...

Anyways, here is a link to a song I wrote (I tried to get it done for the 25th anniversary of John's death but never made it) so, here it is now!

Title : Long Time Gone (25 Years)

www.thedesmoinesriot.com/longtimegone.mp3

This is my recording (no band) though the band may do something with it when I rubber stamp it finally ;-) ... WITH THANKS to my auld pal Guitar Jim for some helpful input with the lyrics on this one, much appreciated Jim...I had what I thought was the basis of a song but Jim gave some REALLY good input and helped me nail the chorus and a couple of other bits so again, cheers Jim - yo da man!

OK, so here I have experimented with some synths (Coco's synths ;-O !! Never before, but this song needed it methinks..you should hear em and as I say, first real use of synths so let me know yer thoughts on that side of it.

This is NOT the final recording (tho I am for that to be done by 08/12/06!! which would be 26 darn years :-( !!

Anyways, all feedback as always, much appreciated. When I nail this, I'll add this and 3 others I have cooking and release a nice new EP which will be free for all to download...vintage!!!

So, cheers for the listen. It took me about 10 years to write this darn song which, when I thought about it, was easier than I thought with the 25th anniversary (I always wanted to do a Lennon tribute)...

Only thing I will say is - vocals a tad sketchy in parts, this will be redone anyway and I need to add harmonies ... but other than that, most of this will stay...

Cheers...thanks for yer advices in advance.

Oooo, nice one. So thats what yer voice sounds like when yer bein mellow. Still got that power thing though that shines right through. A couple odd notes in the vox but nothing that stings when listening. Loved that trademark coco guitar solo, nice straight forward melodic line! I liked the synths myself really. Nice choice of sounds, and good level to em as well. They dont distract from the mix.

I wouldn't change much at all accept for re-doing the vox as you allready stated.

Damn nice tune there bud!

Very nice. I think the piano & synth's, were the perfect choice for the song. Adding some harmonies will really finish this one off nicely. Not much I can think of to change or add, maybe hold off on the drum fill till the first chorus for more impact, but really super arrangement, I really like this, great tribute Coco.

I remember when I got home that night and heard the news, hit me like a ton bricks and I still get sad when I think about it, such a waste.

Coco,

Awesome job putting it all together! The recording sounds great! You're right...it really cries out for synths, and you've done a great job of sneaking them in there without being too intrusive.

I've got in on my iPod, and enjoy listening to it. I got some good ideas for some harmonies that I'll shoot your way soon. Thanks for letting me help out with your awesome song!

Jim

PS Guitar solo is spot on...very Coco-esque!

Cheers guys...the synths are indeed, something I will be using in my own music as time goes on. Nothing heavy or anything that wouldnt fit with general rock music but, this type of stuff is cool...I think it was a (free) Melotron type thing I used which I really like...its a cool sound.

Yah, cheers indeed to ye all. Alas, the vocals arent done ( and in parts are dogawn awful!!) but, I will fix ;-) .. JIM, nice one buddy. I would surely appreciate that...indeed, it would be fitting for you to add some stuff as yer input helped me towards pinning it the way it ended up so yah, would be great to get ye in on it again! Nice one buddy - thanks a lot.

Dan, Noize & Jim - cheers for the listens, kind words and input - yer all top guys and I appreciate yer time and input a lot.

I reckon, I'll get back to workig on this one real soon and nail those darn vocals, so its done for this December (which would require a rewrite to 26 years otherwise ;-P !! hehe).

Cheers

He is from Edinburgh I do believe and the band is called The Des Moines Riot, or The DMR for short.
And yes, The local paper in Des Moines Iowa finally found them and wrote a little article.
