Hey All,
Im looking for some advice. I have been told that the best device for connecting my guitar, bass and vocals to my computer is the UX 1. I would also like to be able to put drums on my tracks. What is the best way to do this?
Cheers
Chris

Live drums or sequenced? If live (which I assume) you'll need a mixer, a bunch of mics, etc...if sequenced, well, just buy some drum software :-)

Thanks for the welcome. I dont really have any mates that are into playing or recording musictherefore I dont know much about recording. Do you have any suggestions about what Drum Software would be compatible?.

compatible with what software tracker? What multitrack software are you using, or planning to use, Sonar, Cubase, ProTools, etc?

I spoke to a guy in sound control and he told me you get 16 track software with the UX1. I am starting from scratch and I have limited knowledge about home recording and a budget of about £200 - £300. I am trying to work out what I will need to get up and running.

Thanks

Oh, yeah, thats right, Ableton Live comes with it...likely supports VST and DirectX...you could use any software drums, I prefer Battery II from Native Instruments, personally...

This guy has links to a big load of drum and percusion related software. www.cleverjoe.com/music_software_drums.html

But if you can swing the cash for Battery that is a very good drum synth that will work splendidly in Ableton Live lite.

I have the UX2 and a few comments

UX1/2 comes only with a 4 track cut down version of Ableton, it's worthless.

UX2 is significantly better than UX1, it has phantom power for the condenser mics, more inputs, and more knobs and dials.

UX1/2 can only record two inputs at once so you can only do Guitar and Vocals at one time + a stereo input such as a synth takes 2.

I love the UX2 but for a complete beginner there's a lot to learn.

Thanks for the comment. I just purchased the UX2 and the Battery Drum software. You say the software that you get with the UX2 is pretty useless, what would you suggest I use instead ?

Cheers,

Chris

software is a personal decision, personally, i like Cakewalk Sonar, or, for lesser money, Sonar Home Studio rocks. www.zzounds.com...907/item--CAKHS for the version without all the add on synths and plugins, or, the best is the XL package www.zzounds.com/a--884907/item--CAKHSXL which for somebody starting out I think is a GREAT package. For my two cents on it, check www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=611

Definitely agree it's a personal choice. To be clear Ableton itself is probably good my point was that the version you get is so disabled that it's worthless, since you have to pay to upgrade it you might consider something else.

I personally use Acid Pro (Music version is cheaper and works fine).

Audacity is free and solid
Reaper is free and highly recommended
Kristal also recommended by a friend (free)
nTrack for $50 gets you a full solution.

Perhaps it makes sense to try a free one to start with.

Acid and I am sure others have free trials also.
