Ok, so i am planning on purchasing Home Studio tomorrow, that seems to be item of choice for everyone, but i am wondering what other things I need to get to run my keyboard into the program? What about my guitar or bass? Can I run those into the program? Basically, i have no idea how to get my physical instruments into Home Studio for recording them. What do I need to buy to make the transfer? Where does "midi" fall into all of this? someone told me that midi just means that it is able to be plugged into the computer. any answers or suggestions appreciated!

May 21, 2006 04:25 am MIDI is data that contains information about how an instument is being played.
MIDI IS NOT AUDIO.
For example, say you plugged your keyboards MIDI out into your soundcards MIDI in. You could then load a synthesizer or sampler in your recording application (Cubase/Sonar/Pro Tools etc.) and tell the synthesizer what to play via your keyboard. When you strike a note on your keyboard it will "trigger" the same note on the synthesizer. Synthesizers and samplers can make any type of sound, so it does not necceserally have to sound like a piano. You can change the sounds to anything from drums to drunk people.
