BBE Sonic Maximizer, on or off?

When recording my guitar, as I said in another post I'm using a Peavey 5150 II and a B-52 Cab, I'm also running my BBE Sonic Maximizer 362 Through the fx loop. Should I have this on or off when mic'ing the amp? I've read articles which say to turn off everything but the guitar and the amp. Would it be better to turn it off and then run the track through the hardware? Or should I look into getting the plug-in and using it after recording without the hardware?

This is just personal taste, but I generally just mic the amp and apply record the sound of the guitar and amp (and any stomp boxes I'm using... or reverb cause it's a CPU hog). When I'm mixing I will go in and apply the Sonic Mazimizer if the track needs it, sometimes putting it on the main sends to send the whole mix through it. I use software but I'm sure this can be done with hardware too.

I wouldn't use it myself, maximizers are compressors of a sort, misused it could really squash lots of the dynamics of the sound...I wouldn't use it.
