Mar 29, 2006 11:35 pm Nice guitars!
How are you recording the bass, direct or micing a cab? And are you compressing the daylights our of it to get it to thump? I couldnt hear enough of it to really tell what might be sucky about it.
Mar 30, 2006 11:34 am direct line on the bass, yes i compressed it ALOT,
hvnt tried micing, what mics should i use? is it like guitar?
got some 57s
Audio Tech 4041
SM 81s
sure kick drum mic, cant remember the name of it
Mar 30, 2006 12:20 pm can't listen at work ยง=o(
but if you're gonna mic the bass, use that kick mic.

Mar 30, 2006 10:50 pm Yep, either the 57 or the kick mic. I would give each one a shot. Or if you can record multiple track at once, do the direct on one track, the 57 on another and the kick mic on another. Then just try mixing and matching till you get a sound you like.
EQ can help as well once it is recorded.
Mar 30, 2006 11:33 pm I agree on the nice work for the guitar tracks, care to share how they were done? I'm assuming maybe one of those 57's you mentioned was involved, but I'd like to hear your process.
Good stuff!
Mar 31, 2006 02:50 am i read a good amount of articles praising 57s so i spent a good hour and some finding the perfect placement that matched w/ the the amp, using peavy5150 and a 1960 marshall cab,
shifted placement and amp setting s for a while listening through the monitors and talking to my tech moving the mic.
it was a single 57 maybe 10inches from the cab about 3 inches to the side of the cone. what you heard was 4 tracks, 2 panned hard left and hard right.

Mar 31, 2006 03:01 am use the kick mic on the bass cab. i am just recording at the moment with a kick mic on the bass cab and a AT4030 placed about 3feet away off center and getting some nice results.
