A good S/PDIF-to-analog convertor for 5.1

Situation: I have ample 5.1 mixing opportunity, my main sound card (Audiophile 2496) outputs 5.1 surround over it's S/PDIF outputs, my secondary cards (Philips 706 Acoustic Edge and a Philips card I am currently beta testing for them) have analog 5.1 outs but Nuendo doesn't use them as surround cards. My surround speakers do not have a digital in, only analog.

Question: Does anyone know of a decent product I could plug in my S/PDIF out from the Audiophile and have it exit the unit as 6 channels of analog audio to send to my surround speakers?

I have been searching but have found nothing.

Thank god!
i´m in a similar situation as you. I´m a user of Ableton Live DJ software and have an Audiophile 2496 on my Mac G4. I¨m trying to find a way to use that S/PDIF output as a Pre-Listen output for my live mixes. An SPDIF to Analog converter would be our solution. keep in touch. i`ll let you know if i find something for you. cheerz. elena

Since the last two posts are years apart, I'd figure I'd keep the tradition.

My wife bought me a pair of Tritton AX360 5.1 headphones last Christmas. They come with an external audio controller, which is a 5.1 decoder. The cool thing about it is that it also includes analog outputs, which it did not need to have, but which Tritton decided to add anyway.

So basically you can plug your optical out into this audio controller & it will convert it into your surround speakers.

It's $150, but even if you decide not to use them in this fashion, the headphones are a must have for any techie/audiophile!
