Two sandwiches short of the picnic basket

Here I am once again scratching my head. (only because it would be considered indescrete to scratch what really itched). Does anyone know how to directly contact a radio station for the purpose of purchasing advertising? Been surfing for a few days and see nothing but ad agencies who want to sell me national campaigns for unthinkable sums of money. Just what the small community based business needs! I don't know too many folks who will drive from Omaha to Michigan to have their muffler checked? I could be wrong. My thinking is that I can produce the audio spot with my equipment. I really don't want to pay the bleach blond, silicone babe to come out and sell me a campaign (although if she wants to visit that's ok) and I don't need 12 suits to brainstorm for six weeks to decide how muffler should be pronounced. Ok, I'm venting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Obvoiously I am trying to get around the fat middle and get right to business. I know this is tangential to strict music production, but I will have music in the ad..... I promise!

My brother in law advertise's for his pizza store on the small town station in New Prague, MN. It does reach to Mankato and a few other communitie's, alot actually. We do the spot's right here, which save's a lot of money and head ache. Then just bring the CD to the station, and they pop it on the air. You just need to walk in, and tell them what you need. I would stay away from the big gun's, as they want the big buck's. But if they are the station's you need to be on. Go in and give em your pitch, for the cheap rate's you will get aspot at 3:00am, but it is a start.

Noize, you never cease to amaze me! You seem to be a limitless source of information. Just walk in. That's too simple. I would have never dreamed it! And so it shall be! A little walking would be good right now anyway. Just dismounted from about a 1K mile croutch kart business trip. (Get out of Dodge and clear the head brainstorm trip). Good for the head....little rough on the bum!

Remember though, I am dealing with a little smaller market based station here. I don't know what your station's are like out there, but there are not many in the big city, Minneapolis except for the independant's that would go for that. But maybe that is a good place for you to start, because believe it or not, there still are a few people who listen to the independant station's. What left of them anyway.

We have a pretty good selection of small and large stations here. And yes, it is the small market based station that I want to target. My whole marketing stratigy is based on community support. Regardless of where I advertise word of mouth will comprise 90% of sales. With the advent of the recycle bin cupon booklets and such never make it into the home. It's down to the tube and radio to keep your name in peoples faces. Of course that doesn't sell, but when your name is mentioned it is familiar somhow. That's all I need. The warm and fuzzy of familiar.

I would think if you can even call the request line or anything in the DJ both like that they will probably be able to put you in touch with the right person as well, I know I have gotten through to a couple of big market stations webmasters that way when I was working for a company that was putting advertising images on their websites.

Will give that a go too Db! I am simply supprised how radio stations do not solicite advertising directly.
