new CHEAP ribbon mics

Anybody tried any of these yet? There are a few different companies selling them now, they are all very much the same mics, just branded with different names (Nady, Apex, T Bone).

When I did some research, the only bummer (and for obvious reasons) is that most of the companies won't warranty a broken ribbon, but this is understandable for such a cheap mic that is so fragile.

I picked up an Apex 210 ribbon mic at Long & McQuade in Canada because they warranty it for a year! It was about $250 canadian, and while it is NOT a Royer or AEA (but not as far off as you'd think), it kicks serious ***!!! This is the coolest mic for a project studio, it has REAL ribbon mic flavour at a seriously affordable cost.

If anyone else has tried these let us know what you think...I say if you love ribbon mics as much as I do, you can't go wrong...buy one!

I didi just see a review on the Apex and they did state they really liked it. As you said though they did indeed state it is not a Royer by any stretch but that it was very good sounding for the money.

Ya Noise, it's definately not a Royer or AEA (I have used both), but they aren't as far off as you'd think, they sound amazing. I wouldn't spend the extra $800 to get a Royer is what I'm saying, not for a project studio anyway...unless you've got that kinda dough to throw around! After all, these are still ribbon mics, they have the same awesome character as any other ribbon mic...nice creamy midrange, smooth lows, and best off all the top end of this mic is perfect, not too sibilant but very crisp. Check them out!
