Jan 20, 2006 12:19 am I used a Roland unit, but it was quite a number of years ago. It was actually just a hex pickup and convertor installed on a strat. It tracked well when used with it's own synth, but had some delay when using the MIDI out to drive other modules. You had to play fairly cleanly for the tracking to work right, but it didn't require overwhelmingly good technique.

Jan 20, 2006 02:40 am Yes indeed. Why do you ask?
The imporvements have been imense over the last few years and the pickup and converters are now pretty steady and solid. They are kinda fun to play something like a brass synth patch through. Or any random stuff played guitar style.

Jan 20, 2006 05:13 pm There is another type of midi "guitar" called a digitar, which I use from time to time. This is really a device for non-guitar players. It let's you select a chord on your keyboard with one hand, and strum the digitar with the other. It then extrapolates the chord notes that were played on the keyboard into a guitar voicing. Pretty good for getting a realistic strummin sound, particularly on acoustic patches. Sustain is hard to manage though, so it's not much use for electric guitar sounds.

Jan 20, 2006 08:24 pm Yep, the digitar is pretty cool. It does work well for real guitar players as well. Lots of cool things you can do with it.
