Do I need optical digital line-in on a Powerbook G4?

Hi, I'm an aspiring singer/songwriter and I'm finally going to be purchasing a new computer to record my work. I've been told that an Apple Powerbook G4 is a good choice, with a DigiDesign MBOX. Sounds great to me, but my question is this -- I'm looking at the 12" model (the smallest and lightest, which I prefer for portability). Here is its audio configuration: Audio line-in, headphone-out, stereo speakers, microphone. If I buy the 15" or 17" model, it has this audio configuration: Combined analog and optical digital line-in, combined analog and optical digital line-out, stereo speakers, microphone. Do I need the analog and optical digital line-in and line-out, or can I just go with the 12" model which is less expensive and more practical for my other work? Thanks in advance to whoever takes the time to respond to this. I really appreciate your help. :)

Since the MBOX will be your audio interface, both in and out, I don't think it would matter which computer you bought.

GJ is right. The m-box is your audio interface. A/D and D/A conversion takes place in the M-box and is interfaced with the computer via the USB connection.
