Some dude on another website forum was mentioning about putting a ATM 4033 in a kick drum to get better "snap". I told him it would damage the mic and he said not if it had a high SPL rating.
What's your take on this? Would you put this type of mic in a kick? I know I wouldn't.Thoughts......ideas??

Apr 03, 2005 12:11 am Well the newer version carries and SPL rating of 145 dB at 1khz with about 1% distortion. But that said, no I wouldnt put one in a kick drum. Micing it from a short distance, yes I would. But not in the drum. The older version that was pre AT-4033CL would not handle those high SPL's.

Apr 03, 2005 09:34 am I used a SP B3 outside the kick drum, off center from the air hole, and it worked great! brought all the other mics to life. It was placed about 14 inches back from the drum skin.
