I was wondering if anyone had any experience of using sampling pads.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a Roland SPD-S for a project which requires me to be able to trigger samples whilst playing the kit.

I'm not sure if this would be the best product to buy as I will be entering into a world of the unknown with this project. Are there any other alternatives that anyone could suggest that might give me the flexibility whilst playing?

This may not at all be what you're after, but you can build the pads for about £2 each, do a google, my friends made a sweet kit. That leaves you a hell of a lot more money for the brain which is the main concern in terms of sound. I don't feel qualified to give you advice on which head though.
