Hi,
I`m looking into buying the Alesis SR16 for my drumming needs. Is this as good as people say?...it seems to be an almost "legendary" piece of equipment?!...why is this? Does it sound at all realistic and organic?
Any opinions are valued on this!
Thanks,
Alex

Jan 17, 2005 06:58 pm I think it was one of the first Drum machine's to use actual studio drummers. i dont think they have changed at all in 16 years - becuase they work so well. I have one and the sounds are great.
The thread below will give you a good overview as to what some of the good folk at HRC use (software and hardware).

The pressure pads are a bit dodgy but i think this is a problem with most drum machine's.
Otherwise an excellent unit and for the price is good to have around me thinks.
Jan 18, 2005 11:10 pm Ditto. The STANDARD in a home studio, imho.
I had an old HR 16, I thought the cymbal samples were better, but the drum samples on the SR can't be beat for the money. Buy it!
Jan 19, 2005 07:56 am I was caught between this and the machine I now own. The SR16 was cheaper and apparently inferior tho I now doubt this advice (not that there is anything wrong with my ZoomRT123) based on waht I have subsequently read aboot the SR16.
I dunno...I guess they are maybe a little dated now but hell, if it sounded like a good drum sample then, it must STILL sound like a good drum sample now!!!
So...ye canny do bad by givin it a try!
Cheers
Coco.

Jan 19, 2005 11:49 pm I have owned both the HR 16 and the SR 16, That was before I went to PC DAW. Now I still use and Alesis DM5 for a large part of my drum sounds. But I am getting away from it as well because of all the good drums in the software synths I use now.
