Which microphones would you recommend to buy for capturing the piano? not to pricy please :)

Jan 01, 2005 01:29 pm First I would recomend peeking at Coco's 'Wee Link' post and check out Shure's web site for mic placement. There are a lot of ways to record a piano. There are a lot of different types of piano's to record. I have done a few baby grands with an x/y configuration just above the strings. For this I used Oktava MK012's. They can be a little hard to find but are under $100.00 a hit. Now that piano was being played as part of a 17 piece band so there were considerations such as isolation.
There was one husband wife team here a year or so back that did some very fine recording. I appologize I can't remember their sign on. If it comes to me I will refer you to their profile if it is still here. Recording Chick also does some piano recording that is pretty good. You might want to check out her profile.
