hello all. i'm trying to sycranize my korg x3 with cakewalk 2004 xl. i basically would like to make the korg act like a slave to cakewalk. ultimatley, i would like to hit record in cakewalk and the korg starts the sequencer at the same time. i would like the measures on the korg to line up with the measures in cakewalk.
thanks

Jun 04, 2004 03:47 pm i dont know what the korg x3 is, but i have succeeded in doing this with my triton.
if your korg is anything like the triton, go into the global parameters menu, then to the midi section. you have a choice there. something like 'internal,' 'smpte,' or 'midi timecode' i think? choose the one that's not internal or smpte.
that's basically it. make sure you have an in and an out midi cable from the keyboard to your soundcard.
hope this helps. sorry if it's a bit vague. it's been a little while since i've done this. try it out. if it doesn't work, check the keyboard's manuals or write back here and i'll see if theres a mistake i made. keep in mind, though, we have differnet keyboards. the one thing i'm pretty sure of is that no adjustments should need to be made in your sequencing software.
Jun 04, 2004 03:51 pm oh yeah, with the triton, there are some oddities, if i remember correctly. if you want the triton to begin actually recording when you hit play on your sequencer, all you have to do is hit the record enable button on the keyboard. pressing play in the sequencer will then hit the keyboard's play button, and recording will begin in the keyboard's sequencer. otherwise, if you dont first enable record on the keyboard, the sequencer will just play in line with the measures in your software.
Jun 04, 2004 03:57 pm thanks. i checked the global options on the korg x3 and i see midi dump and the options are all data, sequence, drum kit, global, combination, and program. this is the only midi option that i know of in the korg. any other suggestions.
i know that this can be done using this keyboard
Jun 04, 2004 04:06 pm what doi you mean? did you go into the global part? what did you see there? and what is midi dump
Jun 04, 2004 04:13 pm yea. i go into the global options and the only thing that says midi in these options says midi dump. i have no idea what this means. i don't have the manual.
Jun 04, 2004 06:28 pm midi-dump...thats not it. try downloading the manual from korg.com

Jun 05, 2004 09:53 pm Haitian boy, you need to set Cakewalk as the time and midi master, and the Korg to the slave in Cakewalk. The onlly thing you have to worry about on the Korg is to make sure you turn local control off so it will only act like a controller but will still play back the notes it hears from Cakewalk.
