well i haven't been able to find a keyboardist for our project so i'd like to know what are some of the methods and machines used to play pre-recorded tracks (ie. backup vox, keys, and maybe midi) while perfoming live. it needs to be able to send the mix and click track back to drummer. a friend's band uses a roland vs-880 but i believe that gets expensive...

I'm luucky in my band I have a keyboardist , but I also have a DJ , and he tends to use the hell ot of his sampler , which is a lot less expensive than the roland . Check out a few they very in price but I think a sampler would do the job .

And another option is to just do like Geoff's DJ does, just bring a PC on stage, or at the mixing console and run program via midi, live on stage.
